It was refreshing to get away from...
people.
Ha ha, is that terrible, or what?
Life is so simple out there, lost in the infinity of the golden Savannah.
And, quite impressively, except for the occasional lioness or hyena hunt, a great number of species coexist in what looked like perfect harmony to our untrained eyes.
Doug and I had a fantastic time on our game drives in Lake Manyara and Ngorogoro Crater national parks--the perfect getaway infused with equal parts relaxation and excitement.
We were fortunate to get up close and personal with the animals.
Lone hyenas, hoards of baboons, herds of zebras, wildebeests, and buffalo, families of elephants, darting gazelles and even a lion pride lazily padded across our path! We saw ostriches, jackals, flocks of flamingos that dyed the lake surface a salmon color and even glimpsed the massive girth of a black rhino for 15 seconds before it slipped beneath a ridge.
The sweet finish?
A sleepy, full-maned male lion sprawled out beneath a tree.
That's more than I could've conjured in my safari dreams.
The parks were beautiful in different ways.
Manyara was thick with lush forest, while Ngorogoro was dominated by broad, open plain dotted with small, leafy oases that provided cover for the rhinos and the leopards.
Enjoy the pictures!
I can't go on in detail because I'm exhausted and am meeting Moses (my Kenya contact) in half an hour in my Arusha hotel lobby.
From there, we'll take a bus to Nairobi, and then plot a course for the Maasai in Moses' hometown, Loita Hills.
Doug flew back to New York this evening--I will miss you so!!
Yet another adventure presents itself.
Another experience--that will be perfect, just the way it is.

Ngorogoro Crater:
Unless internet magically materializes, I'm signing off--for real this time!
Loads of love from Tanzania, then Kenya, then home sweet home.
Sweet endings to quite an adventure...Hakuna Matata!!! "Ain't no passing craze"
